Look at all the people in history

Who ever gained a reputation

For wisdom.

Solomon, Confucius, Socrates, Plato, Buddha, and more,

Each one made a point to warn us

Of how little we know, and how much we do not and cannot know.

Each one was careful to remind us

Of how much they themselves did not know.

Now look at all the people in history

Who have boasted of their own great knowledge,

Who have insisted that they had no need to learn from others,

Because they knew everything -

Or at least, everything that matters.

Has any single one of these not revealed themselves to be

Among the least wise, least knowing persons alive?

The problem with a person thinking they know it all

Is not just that they are wrong about that,

But because they think that, they will never ever learn anything.

All learning and therefore all wisdom begins

With the realization that there are things you do not know about.

So, the self-proclaimed fountain of all knowledge

Is trapped in a prison of their own making.

They will not listen, and therefore can never learn.

Narcissus is deaf as well as functionally blind.
