Zinnias

Zinnias want to grow
Along the edge of sidewalk,
No one invited them
They came.
And now we will not mow
Quite up to where they march
Our tall and colorful guests
They are.
And cautious little primrose
Slip tentative between walk and wall
As if to ask for permission
To thrive.
What is cement after all
But a different sort of garden
Humans suggest a plan,
But the plants decide.
